I need help in putting together a procedure to convert a .mxf file and a p2 mxf file into a .mov file for using on my computer and playing on other players. I thought this might be just as easy as downloading a converter that would re-wrap the file, but as I understand it, Canon/Sony/Panasonic uses its own metadata when creating .mxf files and so all converter tools I’ve tested have not been any help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If you have have accumulated many P2 MXF/MXF files, you may find P2 MXF/MXF video is not compatible with most video editing software, media players or portable devices. In fact, MXF format is great to record high-definition videos, but it is not easy to use, which means you can’t direcly open and edit MXF video in professional video editing programs like Windows Movie Maker, Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, FCP, iMovie, etc. and mobile devices like iPad, iPhone, Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10, Nexus 4, Kindle Fire HD, Nook Tablet, etc.

So, you need to convert MXF to MOV, MP4, AVI, WMV, MKV, ASF, SWF format which is suitalbe for editing and playing beforehand. Step 1. Load P2 MXF/MXF footages.

Step 3. Settings.

Click “Settings” you can choose to keep default settings or adjust parameters, like codec, bitrate, channels, etc, according to your different requirements.

Tip 3: If you choose multi-track format and do not need all audio tracks for output, you can click settings and uncheck the audio tracks you do not want for output. To mix multiple audio tracks into one track, go to check “Mix into one track” on the lower left. Conversely uncheck it you will get multiple audio tracks separately.

Step 4. Start conversion.

Click “Convert” button to start converting P2 MXF/MXF footage to MOV, MP4, AVI, WMV, MKV, ASF, SWF videos, after a while go to “Open” button to locate the generated files.
