Best compact cameras for travel 2015:Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 & Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV

digisns76 No Comments

Summary: Whether you’re traveling the world or the next town over, having the right camera at your side makes all the difference. We’ve picked out our best picks for the photographer who wants to keep things simple by carrying a compact camera rather than one with interchangeable lenses. If you fall into that category, we’ve got great news for you – there are the comparison of Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 & Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV for you.

Panasonic Lumix FZ1000

$750 | 20MP 1″-type sensor | 4K video | 25-400mm equiv. focal range | XGA OLED viewfinder

You can zoom with your feet all day long, but some situations and shooting styles call for real zoom. The Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 doesn’t top its class in terms of massive zoom reach, but its 25-400mm equivalent zoom opens up plenty of options, and an F2.8-4.0 aperture is brighter than most of its peers. With a 1″-type 20.1MP CMOS sensor, it borrows some tech from the GH4 including 4K video recording at 30 fps. Its DSLR-style build includes a fully articulated 921k-dot 3″ LCD and a 2.4M-dot OLED viewfinder.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV

$950 | 20MP 1″-type sensor | F1.8-2.8 24-70mm equiv. lens | Pop-up EVF | 4K video

It’s hard not to recommend the Sony RX100 IV to anyone buying a compact. It’s by no means a budget-friendly option, but it’s among the most capable pocket-sized cameras we’ve ever tested. Sony’s excellent 20MP 1″-type sensor is bigger than your garden-variety compact camera sensor with lots of dynamic range, and a 24-70mm equiv. F1.8-2.8 lens is much brighter than most of its competition. The camera’s tiny pop-up EVF is higher resolution than that of it predecessor and comes in very handy in bright outdoor light.

The RX100 IV really shines when you set the mode dial to movie mode. 4K/UHD recording is available, and at lower resolutions (upscaled to 1080p) high frame rates of 240, 480 and 960 fps can be used. Slow motion video is an awful lot of fun.

If you want to take control over your settings, shoot high quality video and make the most of your vacation Raw files, the RX100 IV is a solid choice. Of course, if you can live without 4K and high frame rates, the RX100 III will save you a couple hundred dollars and get you much of the same excellent image quality. Neither will get you a lot of zoom if that’s what you’re after, but their image quality is at the top of their class.

Should I choose by camera type or video record format?

digisns76 No Comments

Summary: Digital cameras come in all shapes a sizes – and prices. We’ve divided these roundups by camera type, and cost. Here, you’ll find our take on everything from pocketable compact models to high-end full-frame powerhouses.

Interchangeable lens cameras come in all kinds of different shapes, sizes and prices, from the very reasonable to the eye-wateringly expensive.

While most of the cameras in this category fall within the relatively narrow $500-$800 range (with a few exceptions), products in this roundup vary quite a bit in terms of sensor size, number and type of control points, zoom range, video capabilities and built-in electronic viewfinders (or lack thereof).

The Long Zoom Compact category is probably the most diverse of any in our round-ups. Within it are three separate sub-classes of camera, all of which offer 8x optical zoom or greater (up to a whopping 83x). Broadly speaking, the cameras separate into the following categories:

Classic superzooms: DSLR look-alikes with small sensors and very long zoom lenses. The vast majority of the cameras here belong to this class.
What we might call ‘pocketable’ long zooms, which offer less zoom range but which look and handle like a traditional compact. Examples include the Sony Cyber-shot HX90V and Nikon Coolpix S9900.
Finally there are the heavy-hitters, premium long zoom cameras like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 and Canon PowerShot G3 X. All of these use sensors that are substantially larger, 1″-type sensors and offer more advanced features, with fast lenses and high-end video capabilities.

One thing all of the cameras in this category have in common, aside from having a fixed prime lens, is that they offer either a 28mm or 35mm equivalent focal length (save for the Sigma Quattro dp2 and dp3), making all excellent choices for shooting street photography or candids. You’ll find large sensors in this category, either APS-C or full frame. One nice perk of having a fixed prime lens camera is that the lens can be optimized for the camera’s sensor. As a result, all of these cameras deliver excellent sharpness.

In many users’ pockets consumer-level digital compact cameras have been replaced by smartphones. The cameras of the latter don’t usually have zoom lenses or xenon flashes but image sensor technology has been rapidly improving and clever software processing helps rival, and in some cases even surpass, image quality of dedicated cameras. Add large high-resolution screens for image framing and viewing along with the ability to add special features and new shooting modes by installing apps to the mix, and it’s no surprise that for many the smartphone camera has become an important piece of photographic equipment.

No matter what kind of camera you have chosen, you always have the require of playing or editing video in sometimes. Not all the video can be imported into the NLEs for editing since the video format or recording codec are not compatible for all the NLEs. In fact, different NLE has different original format with itself, such as Avid DNxHD for Avid MC, Apple ProRes for Final Cut Pro X/7/6MPEG-2 or WMV(VC-1) for Adobe Premier Pro and Sony Vegas and more to meet different of needs.

Q: I purchased and tried installing your software on a Mac pro with leopard 10.5 and get a message that says: Install Failed – The Installer could install some files in “/Applications”. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

A: Pavtube has been updated to support the coming Mac Mountain Lion system. This new pkg file may have problem to install on Mac OSX 10.5.8. If you have this problem pls download the special installation file for Mac OSX 10.5.8 from below link.

Further question, you can contact

Q: I just purchased Pavtube (so I have the latest version). I am using it to convert my camera video files into a format that is compatible with Final Cut Pro for video editing. But none of the FCP formats seem to work. The conversion takes place but I only get an audio file and no video. Final Cut Pro (nor any other program) cannot open these files. Converting the video files to other formats i.e. Quicktime HD, works perfectly well, but none of the “Final Cut Pro” presets do. Is there something I’m missing or is there a bug in the program?

A: To convert correctly with Final Cut Pro output formats it is required your computer must be installed with FCP, otherwise there will only be audio without video in the generated file.

Q: Trying to convert MXF files from Canon XF300, the below error messages come up.

“There are 1 MXF files without source audio files. Please put the relative source audio files to the same directory with the MXF videos, or to the relative Audio folder, and import the MXF video files again. The mentioned MXF video files: If the converted files are abnormalities of voice sound, please contact the customer support.”

There are no more files that I can add and all files are in the same directory with mxf same results with no sound form hard disk after import through canon xf utility or straight from CF card.

A: This problem has been fixed in latest release on March 19, 2012,pls make sure you are using the latest version. If not, pls download the update from your Pavtube account or contact for a download link of update.

Q: My videos were recorded by my HD camcorder, there are many stripes and noises on the picture after conversion, why should this happen?

A: Some footage is taken under interlacing mode, and this lead to stripes and lines on the screen. To eliminate the lines, you may follow ‘Edit’ menu-> ‘Effect’ tab and check ‘Deinterlacing’ box before conversion. As to the noise, when you apply the special effect mode “Simple Gauss Blur” from the drop-down list, the noise will be reduced greatly.

Q: What are the differences between the trial version and the retail version?

A: A trail version converts videos with watermark (the logo of Pavtube) on the screen, output up to 5 minutes lossless videos, and asks if you would like to purchase at each run while a retail version allows you to use freely without putting on watermark. As a customer of Pavtube, you will be reminded to update the software whenever a new version is released. The update is free of charge for lifetime. Besides, your emails will be attended at the first time, your advice and requirements will be much valued when we upgrade the software.

Q: How to combine multiple video clips into one file?

A: Select the items you want to combine together and check the box of ‘Merge into one file’ before converting the videos.

Q: My widescreen movies (16×9) aren’t staying widescreen after conversion. I don’t want the video to be stretched and made taller. What can I do?

A: Simply click ‘Settings’ button and set the Video Size to 1920*1080 or 1280*720 before converting the movie.

Q: How can I set the output file name?

A: Please drag the wanted files to timeline and do necessary settings, go to the conversion task section, create a conversion task and click on the name of the task, and then you can rename it when the text is editable.

Q: How do I install and register the software?

A: Please find more details at Install and register Mac products.

Q: I am unable to download the program properly. What can I do?

A: Please check whether your computer has been infected. Take IE as an example, you check your IE settings, click “Internet option…” under “Tools”, and then select the “General” Page, just click “Delete file…”, and it will be OK.
