As world’s fastest growing and most advanced editing software, Davinci Resolve works with virtually every modern file type and media format available from Prores and DNx to H.264, DPX, Cineon, EXR and more, etc. However, a lot of people reflect that they fail to import the common MP4 files to Davinci Resolve?
“My problem: I can’t import mp4 files into DaVinci Resolve 12.5.4 on Windows 7 (64-bit). I can’t see my mp4 files in the Media Storage section (I can see all my drives and navigate to the directory where the files are located). When I attempt to Drag and Drop from a Windows Explorer window, I get the + cursor as if it’s going to work, but upon dropping, nothing happens; no file, no popup, no error. Right-clicking in the media pool and selecting “Import Media…” then selecting the file from there does not work either; no popup, no error.”
Why fail to open MP4 with Davinci Resolve?
From Davinci Resolve supported file formats, we can see that it only load files with the format of DPX, CIN, EXR, QuickTime, ProRes, DNxHD, XAVC and MXF. However, as a multimedia container file format, the MP4 files can be encoded with various different video codec listed below:
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (A)SP, H.264/MPEG-4, H.265/HEVC, VC-1/WMV, Real Video, Theora, Microsoft MPEG4 V2, VP8, MVC
If the MP4 files are encoded with Davinci Resolve unsupported editing codec such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.265/HEVC, VC-1/WMV, MVC, etc, Davinci Resolve will fail to open the MP4 files.
