HDV is a format for recording of high definition video on DV cassette tape. The camera tycoons like JVC, Sony, Canon and Sharp have formed the HDV consortium in September 2003, which was initiated by JVC. Video and audio coding
MPEG-2 : HDV video and audio are encoded in digital form, using lossy interframe compression. Video is encoded with the H.262/MPEG-2. Stereo audio is encoded with the MPE3G-1 Layer2.
