1. I am trying to import 2 .MOV clips into FCP X, and it is giving me the following error message: No importable files – None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again. I’ve tried several clips, and keep getting this error message. Has anyone had this issue and found a way around it? THanks! Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

2. I have some GH4 footage, both 4k & 1080p in the MOV format and FCPX only plays back a few frames before the picture freezes and the audio continues. Quick look can preview the 4k files straight from the SD card so I can’t quite figure out why FCPX can’t play them. Or is it a format that’s not supported without optimisation? Anyway, this is on a 2013 6 core Mac Pro and the files are stored on a thunderbolt RAID. Any suggustions appreciated…

It is well know that MOV is a container file format, it can hold various different video codecs like DV, HDV, DNxHD, Prores, DVCPRO, MPEG-4, H.264, etc. After searching for Final Cut Pro X supported file formats , you may find that FCP X only has native support for MOV files encoded with Apple Prores, DV, HDV, H.264, DVCPRO HD, QuickTime codec. Therefore, if your MOV files are encoded with other codec like MPEG-4 or DNxHD, you will fail to load them into FCP X. In addition, when you import some highly compressed codec such as H.264 used by Canon, Nikon. You will start to lose quality as you do color correction or composite gradients. There just isn’t a lot of room to work.

To achieve a fast and fluid workflow of MOV files with various different codec with FCP X, the best way is encoding MOV to FCP X high quality and high performance editing codec Apple Prores, which have large file size but will render faster and leaves more room to work, so you can create great looking effects without losing any quality. There is a professional solution in hand called Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac (support Mac OS X El Capitan ), which can encode all MOV files either recorded from camera/camcorder or downloaded from online sites to Final Cut Pro X best supported Apple Prores codec in different types . Here, you are recommended to choose “”Apple Prores 422(*.mov)”or “Apple Prores 422(HQ)(*.mov)”for better performance with FCP X.
